An indigenous struggle against Morales
Socialist Worker, 07-September-2011: MORE THAN 500 indigenous Bolivians are on the march from the eastern city of Trinidad towards the capital city of La Paz--a distance of more than 300 miles--to protest the construction of an interstate highway that would cut TIPNIS, a protected park and indigenous territory that belongs to the Yuracaré, Moxeño and Chimán peoples, in half.
Conflict Boils Over La Paz Garbage Dump
Bolivia-Weekly, 07-September-2011: The municipalities of Achocalla, Mecapaca and Palca, in a mass meeting or cabildo yesterday gave the mayor of La Paz 48 hours to revoke "false" sub-mayoral districts of Zongo, Hampaturi and Mallasa in the South part of La Paz. The three protesting towns believe that the former three belong to their jurisdictions and are asking for respect of their "ancestral limits." They are also demanding that the Alpacoma garbage dump be moved.
Bolivia Dominates South American Cycling Championships
Bolivia-Weekly, 07-September-2011: Bolivia dominated the South American Cycling Championships which began in Sucre and finished with a steep descent today from the Churuquella mountain. Bolivians got first in every category. Yamil Montaño won men's elite, Gladys Choque won the women's elite, María Teresa Nina won women under 17 and Mario Checa won men sub-19.
Bolivian Rural Workers Back Road Construction
Prensa Latina, 07-September-2011: The Bolivian Rural Workers Union (CSUTCB) on Wednesday joined hundreds of other organizations in supporting the construction of a road joining eastern and western Bolivia. Alejandro Peredo, one of the union's leaders in Cochabamba, said on a state television that unlike the indigenous group in the east that is protesting the road, he believes the highway would bring more integration and development.
